For sale is a MemorialPlaque named JAMES ROY FLETT. It comes with copies of service extracts, RedCross report, newspaper articles and copied photographs.

Note: JAMES ROY FLETT is a unique name within the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

Lance Corporal JamesRoy Flett was born in Port Pirie, South Australia in 1890. The son of a well-knownjeweller, he was working as a cabinet maker when he enlisted on the 5/8/1915 intothe 7th Reinforcements, 27th Battalion.

He departed Australiabound for Egypt in January 1916, from there he followed the rest of the AIF toFrance landing on 27/3/1916, still in the reinforcement pool.

He joined the 27th Battalionon 2/5/1916 and was present with them during the Battle of Pozieres. He was wounded in action on 4/8/1916during the closing stages of the battle, receiving a shrapnel wound to hisright leg. He was evacuated to hospital and rejoined the battalion on 23/9/1916with the new rank of lance corporal.

He was killed in actionon 5/11/1916 during a battalion attack near Flers, (Somme) when he was hit witha burst of machine gun fire.

The attack cost thebattalion 5 officers killed and 5 wounded, 72 men killed, 136 wounded and 75missing.

He is buried in theFlers A.I.F. cemetery, France.
