We are pleased to bring to market a beautiful oil painting, painted by Mordechai Avniel sometime in the late 1950\'s - early 1960\'s. He titled it \"Sunset in Safed\". The title is located on the bottom - middle of the frame. He titled it in both Hebrew and English on the back of the painting....and again on the back of the stretcher on the lower left. He signed it on the front lower left in English and the lower right in Hebrew. The provenance of the paintng is present in a paper label affixed to the back of the painting, including the original sale price. His works can be found in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He had many gallery showings in both New Jersey and Manhattan. Mordechai was active in the arts as a professor of Sculpture at the Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem. By the late 60\'s he had become director of the school. The colors that Avniel used for this painting are both dynamic and beautiful. The reflection of the sun on the city-scape of Safed is amazing. His use of the color orange in this painting is truly spectacular. This is an opportunity to own, not just a piece of beautiful Israeli art, but a small piece of Israeli art history.
