Hello and thank you for viewing my listing. Today you are purchasing a beautiful high quality museum specimen of Gao-Guenie Official H5 Chondrite Meteorite from Burkina Faso. Beautiful meteorite, oriented, large, shallow thumbprinting, exceptional specimen. I have held this specimen and 2 slightly larger specimens in my private collection now since 2013. I first purchased Gao at the Tucson show in 2012 as a friend of mine and fellow seller of meteorites, introduced me to a gentleman from South Africa who would bring Gao every year to the show to sell wholesale. I bought all he had left in 2012 and in 2013 he came to me first, as I never haggled his price, and I purchased ALL he had that year and the next two years also, until 2015. I lost my room and had to move locations and never seen him again, urghh. Anyways, this specimen along with my other two large specimens came from him that year of 2013. I have never seen Gao's this large as these three I have. I have only sold 15 on , a long time ago. The Gao would sell quickly to other dealers and collectors at the show, and I usually never had any to bring back home. I hid these three away and some smalls and that was all that ever made it home. I am beginning to sell off a lot of my personal collection of many many things you will want, lol. I am a collector, and a hoarder, I admit it, lol. Just ask my wife! The other two will go to my children, not for sale. Below is the data for Gao-Guenie. Excellent addition to your collection.

GAO, a village about 60 km N of the town of Leo, Upper Volta; φ= 11°391N, λ = 2°11'W.

FALL, March 5, 1960, about 1700 hours.

STONY, olivine-bronzite chondrite.

At least 16 stones were recovered, the largest weighing 2.5 kg; 1 kg in U.S. National Museum (Washington, USA).

Gao-Guenie, new name With the recent paper by Bourot-Deniseet al.(1998), the Meteorite Nomenclature Committee has decided that a new, collective name,Gao-Guenie, will be bestowed upon all meteorites formerly identified as eitherGao (Upper Volta)(frequently truncated toGao) orGuenie. It had been reported that two meteorite showers occurred one month apart in 1960 in the country now known as Burkina Faso. But the new work confirms long-held suspicions that the two meteorites are indistinguishable from each other and that there was most likely only one fall (1960 March 5). The confusion about this meteorite has been compounded by the fact that new stones continue to be found~40 years after the fall and are given arbitrarily one or the other name. Henceforth, the official name for all meteorites from this shower will beGao-Guenie, with the namesGao (Upper Volta)andGuenieas recognized synonyms.
