Absolutely superb engraved 1914 Iron Cross First Class to Offizierstellvertreter Alfred Mechling for actions at the Somme in 1916. The date, likely the day in which he received his award, is included on the reverse (October 2, 1916).
He died after the war, on December 26, 1918, according to the German War Graves Commission. The cross is marked WS by the catch for Wagner und Sohne. The engraving is detailed and professional, with small bits of original patina. This is the last cross out of my collection that I am selling for a larger purchase.
