This sculpture embodies the rich traditions and heritage of the African people. Featuring a unique design and rich cultural symbolism, this piece is a timeless collectible that highlights the beauty and artistry of African cultures.Lazarus was born in 1952 in Nyanga, Zimbabwe and died in January 2021 in Harare (Zimbabwe). The sculpture is 30" wide, 16" tall, 8" deep and weighs 172 lbs. so this is a substantial piece.
Lazarus Takawira is the youngest of three sculptor brothers. Sculpting the hard serpentine stone, he lets emerge figures of women with mysterious faces, which sometimes recall the work of Modigliani.
Lazarus' works are in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, as well as in various public collections, including the Rodin Museum in Paris, the World Bank in New York, the Tervuren Museum in Belgium.
