Banking on his newfoundcounterculture popularity, he completed artwork for Zap #1,his debut in the comic book format, and signaled the beginning ofthe independent comics movement that exploded out of the infamousBay Area hippy counterculture of the 1960's.

With so few copiessurviving the blaze and the initial years of street-leveldistribution in the Haight/Ashbury area, it's a miracle that after50 years, a copy in such pristine condition even exists.
