An Exceptional Pair of Late 19th Century French Louis XVI–Style Bleu Céleste Porcelain and Gilt-Bronze Mounted Covered Urns with Hand-Painted Romantic Figural Panels.Richly decorated in vivid turquoise-blue porcelain and lavishly mounted with finely cast gilt bronze. Each urn features an elegant baluster-form body raised on a square ormolu pedestal base with scrolling feet, acanthus leaf ornament and classical floral garlands. The front central oval panels depict romantic pastoral figural scenes in the 18th-century taste, with finely painted figures in garden landscapes, evoking the elegance of French Rococo and Neoclassical decorative arts. The rear oval panels painted with floral bouquets. The gilt-bronze mounts are especially elaborate, with Bacchic masks scrolling handles, grapevine and floral swags, acanthus leaves, fluted collars, and shell-form finials. The bases are equally ornate, each centered with a small porcelain floral cartouche framed by gilt-bronze ornament.These urns are impressive in scale and presence, combining porcelain painting, vivid color, and sculptural bronze work.
