1880’s James Naismith cdv. Published by Les Des Marias Co of Montreal. Naismith was a student at McGill University at the time of this image. Naismith came from Canada to the US in the 1890’s. He invented basketball in Massachusetts. The Basketball Hall of Fame is named after him. This is possibly the oldest solo image of Naismith. There is a known cdv of Naismith as little boy with his little sister that sold in sale. This is likely the second oldest image of Naismith that is still in existence. There are cabinet cards of Naismith from his time in Montreal. Judging by his likeness in this cdv, I believe he is younger in this image than the known Naismith Montreal cabinets. Cdv measures about 2 by 4 inch in size. Minor stains, toning and wear. Feel free to ask questions.
