French Carriage Clock
1hr & 1/2hr Chime W/AlarmPolished brass and gilt bronze French carriage clock, retailed by J.E. Caldwell & Co. These were imported from France and sold under the J.E. Caldwell & Co. Name. This clock has beveled glass top over beveled glass sides. The magnificent matte gilt around the clock face is engraved with sunflowers and leafs with deep blue 3 dimensional background. The numbered clock face is porcelain as well as the small alarm face. The hands are black cut steel that sets on the clock and the alarm. The back is hinged bevel glass opening to the mechanism back plate dated or numbered 1867. This number is also stamped on the bottom under the brass plate. It has the coiled rod gong and disc formed hammers. The keys are not original, they are #0 for the hands of the clock and alarm and #3 for the hour and half hour annunciation as well as the time one hour and half hour strike. On the left side of the clock the beveled glass is chipped in one corner on the inside. One the outside of the back door there is a very small chip up on top of the right hand corner. The clock measures 6 1/4 inches tall and 3 1/4 inches square. The clock doesn't hammer out the right number strikes on each hour it keeps striking. The clock works for short periods of time and then stops, moving the hands starts the clock working again, will need a cleaning for it to work properly.
