October 18, 1942 Ward Kimball signed invitation letter for the Southern Live Steamer's Annual Field Day at the Grizzly Flats Railroad in San Gabriel California. This letter marks the inaugural year for the railroad which operated from 1942 - 2006. The Grizzly Flats Railroad was the first such personal railroad in the United States, serving as direct inspiration for Walt Disney's own Carolwood Pacific Railroad and ultimately influencing the design of the Disneyland Railroad.
