What the dickens is going on here? This is a very crowded tableau filled with: a palm tree or two, a gigantic insect (?), a floating person or spirit, a bird and dozens of space-filling X's. I guess "insect" because of its segmented body and antennae. It appears to be eating the tree. Perhaps the floating person is a ghost. Tons of work and a lot of time went into this strange image. Interestingly, there is probably as much embroidery as appliqué forming the picture, a signal characterization of some modern molas. The "ada-ada" (sawtooth edges) are scalloped, twice the effort needed. No shortcuts were taken on this example. It was probably meant to impress a potential tourist customer. There is no evidence that it was created to wear but just to sell. This panel measures 12.5" x 15". I do not sell or ship internationally.
