Without question these are true historical vessels, and we've given you different angles of each the 3 vessels to help you identify them. Crafted in late 1891 (and based on a matching 1892 NYYC trophy we found online) we have assigned this tankard to the New York Yacht Club's 47th Annual Regatta held on June 9th, 1892. Sterling Silver New York Yacht Club Trophy Water Pitcher.This mug has no inscriptions and is almost certainly the companion to that pitcher.Hallmarks confirm thatTiffany crafted thepitcher in 1890, but the event didn't occur until June of 1892 (2yrs later). Pitcher & Mug: this is the companion piece. But technically, this 1891 tankard could have connections to ANY East Coast regatta held after 1891: the 1893 America's Cup, etc. Stands 5 3/8" tall and weighs just under 16ozs. A stunning piece of craftsmanship!Between 1890 and 1910 photo transfer souvenirs were all the rage and we believe that that's how this tankard came to be. Tiffany had a large inventory of 'blank' objects: goblets, bowls, pitchers, mugs, vases, etc., beautiful, sellable objects on their own, but that could later be embellished and personalized. This explains the 1 & 2-year gaps between creation and event. We believe the NYYC submitted photographic images of that 1892 race to Tiffany's. Tiffany's then, through an applied and engraved process, meticulously transferred those photographic images onto the objects.For example: thePeerlesspitcher appears to be showing thePeerlessas it crosses the finish line. Tiffany's numerical date-code system tells us that the Peerless pitcher was crafted in 1890: the images depicted on the pitcher didn't take place until June of 1892.The shells, coral, kelp and boats appear to be raised-up off the surface (applied) whereas much of the background decoration: clouds, wind and waves, appear to be etched into the surface, creating a 3-D effect.
