The pendant for this necklace is a pipe measuring: 6.8 x 4.3 x 4 cm. (2 5/8" x 1 5/8" x 1 1/2"), that I made from a hand-finished tagua nut (vegetable ivory).On the front I inlaid a 25 x 18 mm. mahogany obsidian cabochon.On the back is the pipe.
The pipe's bowl measures: 2.2 x 2.3 cm. (7/8" x7/8").From the mouthpiece to the center of the bowl measures: 5 cm. (2").The bore is approximately .5 cm (3/16").I filled any small cracks inside, due to germination, with non-toxic bentonnite clay.
Like a Meershaum pipe, the tagua nut will absorb the tars released from smoking, and will become a dark, honey amber color with use.
Obsidian is volcanic glass that comes in many patterns and colors.Energetically, it helps ground one's energy and improve focus.
For the neckpiece, I did macrame with black, mahogany brown and natural, colored hemp twine, using: mahogany obsidian ovals; onyx ovals and rounds; dyed, crackle agate rounds; cruelty free, elk antler tips; bone rounds and rondelles; glass crow beads; and a wooden donut.
The length is adjustable, from: 50 cm. (19 3/4"), up to: up to 123 cm. (48 1/2").Just slide the lock knot to desired length.
This necklace is made for people of all sizes to wear any length.If you would like it shorter, you can specify the length desired at time of purchase (no less than 60 cm. or 24" so it will still fit over your head), and I can easily shorten it.
The necklace also comes with extra screens and a storage pouch for safe keeping.
The last picture shows a raw tagua nut so you have a better idea what I start with.Each nut has its own unique pattern, similar to a fingerprint.Tagua nuts are a renewable product of the rain forests of Central and South America.They are a viable alternative to animal ivory.
