Made in England around 1750, this piece is a remarkable survivor. It has all but one of its original components as well as its matching chatelaine (more than the Louvre's example can claim). That is the level of quality we're talking about. The missing piece is a bone ruler; a piece that would have been most fragile in this set. Its gilt bronze exterior is in remarkable condition as are the agate panels that make up the body. Please note what looks to be a very small repair to the gilt on one side near the bottom. This piece would have broadcast wealth and status nearly 300 years ago; today it would make a centerpiece to an antique jewelry or sartorial collection. 8”x1.5”
