Rare and highly detailed original British Army officer’s lance cap plate (czapka plate) of the12th (Prince of Wales’s Royal) Lancers, circa 1902–1910.

This striking multi-piece example features a gilded brass starburst backplate with a finely cast silvered overlay bearing the Royal Arms, flanked by the lion and unicorn. Above the Royal Arms are the Prince of Wales’s feathers with the motto“Ich Dien”, confirming attribution to the 12th (Prince of Wales’s Royal) Lancers.

The plate displays an extensive array of regimental battle honours, including:

The lower portion bears the prominent sphinx over “EGYPT” and a separately applied scroll for “SEVASTOPOL,” indicative of an officer’s quality issue.

Lance cap plates of this type were worn exclusively by officers of lancer regiments in full dress uniform and are now exceptionally difficult to source in such complete and well-preserved condition.
