Antique Venetian Blackamoor Fiigure of a Gondolier Circa 1860.
The carved Ebonised wood figure wearing traditional costume , retaining original Polychrome and Gilded decoration. He stands holding an oar and cornucopia torchere,on the bow of his Gondola above simulated wave base.
The original Ebonised hexagonal pedestal with gilded mouldings.
Height overall (to tip of oar) 210 cm (83”).
Width max 38 cm (15”).
Depth from top of oar 60 cm (23.5”).
Condition...This is a very Original Figure with No Repairs or Restoration Retaining much of its Vibrant colours and gilding....there are signs of ageing throughout as would be expected....there are small losses of gesso in places(mainly on the back)..some small knocks and minor splits Please Study Images..(more happily supplied). The pedestal has losses around base
