Rare opportunityto purchase 1 of 10 beautiful Church adoration chapel shrines that Church Services Group has just acquired and completed the removal of....Featuring exceptional finely detailed hand carved Carrara Italian Marble reredos with real gold leaf mosaic inlays...This particular altar features Our Lady of Consolation the Blessed Virgin Mary. You can find additional info about Our Lady of Consolation at the bottom of this description. We will consider selling the altar bases separate from the reredos panel, we could also have different altar bases manufactured if another style is required for a project.

As Mother of Consolation she is particularly near to those in need of companionship and comfort*The devotion*is a reminder that we are never forgotten or abandoned, never alone.” Particular Augustinian devotion to Mary under the title of Mother of Consolation appears to have sprungfrom a story or legend tied to Saints Monica and Augustine. It tells of Monica, in the 4th century, distraught withanxiety and sorrow for her wayward son, Augustine, confiding her distress to Mary, who appeared to be dressed inmourning clothes, but wearing a shiny cincture. As a pledge of her support and compassion, the Blessed Motherremoved the cincture and, giving it to Monica, directed her to wear it and to encourage others to do the same.Monica gave it to Augustine, who in turn gave it to his community, and so the Augustinian wearing of a cincturecame into being – as a token of fidelity to our Mother of Consolation. In the 16th century, the flourishing devotiongave rise to the popular picture of Mary with the Child Jesus, who holds the end of the cincture in his right hand.As with any legend, what’s more important than the story itself is the point which it intends to make; in this case,it’s an expression of confidence in Mary’s consoling presence in our lives.
