A small South Staffordshire or Bilston enameled copper scent bottle taking the shape of two doves holding a banner reading "Nos amoureux coeurs s'eloignent de peurs." The bottle measures 3.5" (8.9cm) in height. It would have been made in the mid-18th century, c.1760. There is enamel loss to the bottle's base (pictured), which is typical of this type of item (The Met's bottle has a gaping hole in the enamel on one of the dove's wings).
A similar bottle resides in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, part of the Irwin Untermyer collection, accession number 64.101.809a, b. Another is pictured in Scent and Scent Bottles by Launert, page 139.
