Withonly 88 known and document exampleshaving ever been unearthed,fewer than a half dozenare present in private hands with the restbeing housedinstate and federalmuseums.This Fine Statue was originally discovered in 1870 at the base of the Cumberland Mountain near the headwaters of the Caney Fork River in Warren County Tennessee near McMinnville. Pictured as a drawing in Prehistoric Implements by Moorehead 1900, within the Edward Payne collection 1920's, Illinois State Archeological Society 1949 and most recently within the Central States Archeological Journal 2014 with a multiple photo presentationand full detailed history from point discovery to present. In addition this Female Stone Idol is cataloged as CSS-025 as one of the 88 known documented examples in the publication ''Speaking with the Ancestors'' Mississippian Stone Statuary of the Tennessee-Cumberland Region by Kevin E. Smith and James V. Miller (Published by The University Of Alabama). Originally collected by Edward Waldron Payne, Donald O. Boudeman, Gilbert Thrust and Stanly West.
