Isaac C. Parker approves a $1000 bond for a defendant accused of bribery.
Partly Printed Document endorsed: \"Approved June 11.\'95/I.C. Parker/Judge\" as Judge of the U.S. District Court for Western Arkansas at left margin, 1p, 8½x14. Fort Smith, Arkansas, 1895 June 11. The \"Hanging Judge\" approves a $1000 bond for a defendant accused of bribery. In part: \"Charles C. Gabbert has been indicted in the District Court of the United States for the Western District of Arkansas, upon the charge of Bribery....\" Gabbert was scheduled to face Judge Parker in court in Fort Smith on August 5, 1895. Also signed: \"Charles C. Gabbert\", \"Wm. T. Gabbert\" \"Geo. M Gabbert\" and a Witness. Isaac Charles Parker (1838-1896), who served as Judge of the U.S. District Court for Western Arkansas from 1875 until his death in 1896, the year after he signed this document, became known as the \"Hanging Judge\" for passing 162 death sentences during his tenure. Lightly creased with folds, horizontal fold between the \"rk\" of Parker and through Charles C. Gabbel\'s signature at lower portion. ¼-inch separations at blank right margin at horizontal folds, ¼-inch separations at blank left margin at upper horizontal fold, nicked at blank left margin at mid-horizontal fold.
