(Cunard) "The Official Guide & Album of the CUNARD Steamship Service". Revised edition 1878-79. Hard bound book. Contains 268 numbered pages plus title pages & endpapers and additional plates and fold outs. Measures 9x12". Contains five sets of fold out Deck Plans: ABYSSINIA, ALGERIA, BOTHNIA / SCYTHIA, GALLIA, RUSSIA . There are plates with illustrations of the following: ABYSSINIA/ALGERIA, BOTHNIA / SCYTHIA, GALLIA, RUSSIA. There are two fold out track charts: For Atlantic Routes and for Mediterranean Routes. There is a complete fleet listing of Cunard ships with very obscure old ships: Aleppo, Hecla, Palmyria, Siberia, Malta, Llama, Raven, Bear, Walrus, among many others. (For example the SARAGOSSA was on the Atlantic Mail service, was built in 1874 and was 2165 tons and carried 74 cabin passengers, and 548 in steerage. ) Various texts including a Company History and a text "Transatlantic Trips". Additional texts of Liverpool, London & Paris, others. There are several notices, fares, a sample Bill of Fare and a Wine List with Prices. Specially prepared ads. There are also some essays, which were customary in the period, including one on the Whiskey Frauds. Nice red covers with gold edge pages. This was a high quality production. Book is complete, a couple of pages loose from binding. Slight stain on the cover, otherwise Very Good Condition. One of the finest pieces we have ever seen!
