Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer forsale thissublime pair of small side table lamps, chromed metal, made byTucker & Edgar Ltd London, designed by Miss Elsie Roberts in the studio ofOswald Milne for Claridges Hotel, ca.1932.

A very rare a well made pair, they are original1932, the bases are domes which have been chromed in half with the other sidebeing peach in colour in the atomic style, the shades are fully chrome platedwith the original unrestored internals which have a wonderful patina.

The only other known example that I have seenis detailed in the V&A (Victoria & Albert Museum) the full details areas follows.

Oswald Partridge Milne was educated at BedfordSchool, and followed his father into the architectural profession. He wasarticled to Sir Arthur William Blomfield from 1898 to 1901, and remained as hisassistant until 1902 when he joined the office of Edwin Landseer Lutyens as hisassistant.

He left in 1904 to commence practice on his ownaccount in London. He went into partnership with the Hon. Paul Phipps in 1919.Their practice chiefly involved country houses. He joined his father's practiceMilne and Hall in 1906, which he continued until until 1916.

His work included some of the main interiors ofClaridge's Hotel in London. He was later in partnership with Alfred Underhill.In 1927 he was in practice at 64 Wigmore Street in London. His work includesthe Eleventh Church of Christ Scientist in London, Hunterscombe Place inOxfordshire, Sprowston Court in Norwich, Coleton Fishacre in South Devon,Tirinie in Perthshire, and the War Memorial Building at Bedford School .

He was also the architect of Nuffield Placenear Henley-on-Thames, the home William Morris, founder of Morris Motors inOxford, later Lord Nuffield

He was a leading Fellow of the Royal Society ofArts, a Chairman of Council in 1959-61 and Vice-President.

Oswald Partidge Milne died on 15 January 1968at Hampstead in London aged 86 years.

The lamps have been fully service to include afull rewire and new plug, they are ready to go

Please note vintage period and original items suchas leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing andwear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyedleather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods oftime as it will dry out and fade

IMPORT DUTY

Most countries charge some kind of import dutyhowever almost all of our items won’t incur any charges as the items are exemptfrom tax due to the age and materials used

For European deliveries the price you will bequoted will include all clearance documentation and any customs charges sothere won’t be any additional fees

For international deliveries such as the UnitedStates there can be some import duty to pay and or a clearance fee, I wouldestimate that 99% of all deliveries clear customs without being stopped foreither

All duties are the responsibility of the purchaserwho is the importer, they can’t be covered by the seller or shipping agent orfactored in with additional retrospective discounts

RETURNS

Royal House Antiques offers a no quibble returnpolicy if the item is not as described, if there are any issues with the pieceyou will be refunded in full once the item has been returned and inspectedwithin 14 days, alternatively if there is a small issue, we can discuss findinga mutual resolution that makes all parties happy

We don’t offer a sale on approval service whichmeans you can purchase the item, have it delivered and if you simply don’t likeit, return it, this comes under change of mind or doesn’t fit.
