This is a superb ANCIENT ROMAN MARBLE HEAD OF DIONYSOS FROM AHERM, Roman Imperial, circa 1st Century A.D.

This ancient marble bust is beautifully carved in archaistic style, inthe form of a head of Dionysos with long beard, long voluted moustache, and wide-seteyes beneath the prominent brow, his hair bound in a fillet,massed in spiral curls about the ears, and falling in two long strands over thesides. It is in good ancient condition with natural wear due to age. It measures 7" high, 3½" wide and is mounted to a wooden base for atotal height of 9". This item comes directly from a Southern California estate and waslegally imported into the United States over 50 years ago.
