Incredible painting of Sulu (George Takei) used in the Hamilton Plate set, Power of Command (1996). The piece is packed with beautiful details, from the shimmering stars to the Starship Excelsior, which saved the Enterprise in the Undiscovered Country film. But what tops it off, of course, is the amazing photorealistic image of Captain Hikaru Sulu by legendary artist Keith Birdsong. He is probably the most prolific and famous of all Star Trek artists. When Star Trek had its huge resurgence in the 1990s, a decade that encompassed the Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and four films, Keith Birdsong was painting almost everything Star Trek; including book covers, plates, game boxes, and posters. Keith Birdsong's art has been frequently exhibited in the Smithsonian, which has several Birdsong pieces in its collection.
Art is matted to 18" x 18" dimensions, with a 13" diameter image area. By comparison, the plate is 8". It is in excellent condition and has been stored away undisplayed for nearly 30 years so the colors stayed bright and vibrant. Plate included.
