Released for the 2014 Chinese New Year, this S.T. Dupont Haute Création Horse Prestige fountain pen was created specifically for the Chinese Spring Festival gifting season, a period when symbolism, presentation, and luxury carry deep cultural meaning. Introduced in late 2013 as an early entry into the Year of the Horse market, the collection was designed to appeal to Chinese collectors and gift buyers seeking objects that combine auspicious symbolism with refined craftsmanship.In the Chinese Zodiac, the Horse occupies the seventh position and is associated with strength, energy, and an outgoing nature. Horses are often described as animated and naturally magnetic, thriving at the center of attention and keeping the crowd engaged with humor and wit. The Horse is also a symbol of nobility, class, speed, and perseverance, and is linked with gifted communication and the pursuit of individual freedom and happiness. These qualities form the symbolic foundation of the Horse Prestige collection.The pen is crafted in black Chinese lacquer and crowned with a fully sculpted horse rendered in yellow gold-finished metal. The flowing mane and expressive stance give the piece a sense of movement and vitality, presenting the pen as a sculptural collectible as much as a writing instrument. The Horse release was created in two tiers: Horse Prestige and Horse Premium. The Prestige tier represents the highest expression of the theme and was produced in very limited numbers, comprising 88 fountain pens and 88 rollerballs, along with 88 lighters and ashtrays. The Premium tier was produced in larger quantities and included 888 writing instruments (fountain pens and rollerballs), lighters, and cufflinks. This example is the fountain pen from the Prestige series and is individually numbered 17 of 88.

The Horse collection was created in partnership with Philippe Tournaire, a French master jeweler recognized for sculptural jewelry that draws on architecture, history, and symbolic forms. His work emphasizes volume, structure, and intentional presence, qualities that translate naturally into three-dimensional objects.

S.T. Dupont’s collaboration with Tournaire reflects the brand’s long-standing approach to working with artisans outside traditional pen design when a collection demands more than surface ornamentation. In the Horse Prestige edition, his influence is evident in the three-dimensional sculpted horse head with flowing mane, and the pen’s presentation as a standalone object worthy of display.
