This is a pre-owned Wajima lacquerware water container, crafted in the traditional Rikyu style and finished in a deep black lacquer. Created by renowned lacquer artist Chahira Issai, this piece is a significant item for tea ceremony enthusiasts. The "Okuchi" style of water container, characterized by its large mouth and lack of a side handle, was historically used for storing filtered water before transferring it to the kettle. It is traditionally used as a "oki-mizusashi" (placed water container) during the early spring season in the Omotesenke school of tea ceremony.
