For sale is this pair of original ww2 Iwo Jima Secret Invasion Maps! One of the most prized WW2 maps from the Iwo Jima invasion of 1945. These maps have age and wear throughout but i'll tell you they are some of the best condition authentic IJ maps I have seen come to the market. They have been folded up and stored away for more than 50 years, away from light! The edges are nice and these would frame beautifully! There is foxing, some wear, creases, staining, etc. A corner on the second map has been bent back but it is in tact. Photos show the items AS IS. With a little TLC these will really sing! I believe the staple is the original staple.

UPDATE: We have added a set of four Iwo Jima secret photos, plus two USS Southampton Panoramic photos that we found! Ao this lot will include the two maps, and six additional photos. Also note, we removed the staple from the pair of maps and put them in archival sleeves for their protection. They will ship flat. Thanks for looking.

This came from the estate of WW2 Sailor William Laurel Randolph who was a quartermaster 2nd Class on the USS Southampton. A simple search of Navy musters confirm this. Terrific provenance. This was among all of his other navy items in storage at his family home. This was simply mixed in, casually with other items. He must not have known what a gem he had hiding in there!

From Wikipedia: "Southampton entered her assigned transport area off Iwo Jima on

19 February. She lowered landing craft and dispatched them to other

ships of the division to ferry the assault troops to the beach. Southampton sustained her only casualties of the Iwo Jima assault during the initial landings when a mortar shell exploded close aboard one of her LCVP's

and wounded the coxswain and a seaman. During the last two weeks in

February, the attack cargo ship joined in unloading troops and supplies

and embarking casualties from the fighting ashore. These operations were

frequently interrupted by enemy air activity."
