This is for an original turn of the century postcardfeaturing “The Famous Federal Bloomer Girls”. Barnstorming women’s teams touredthe country from the 1880’s through the 1920’s, long before the All AmericanGirls Baseball League in 1944. The first baseman’s glove with stitching and abuckleback makes this around 1910. The uniforms also resemble 1910 era. Onething for certain is there is a young gentleman in the upper right hand corner,and the player or manager bears a strong resemblance to Smoky Joe Wood, whostarted his professional baseball career as a Bloomer Girl. This could have evenbeen during a time when Joe was injured and toured to make money since if you didn’tplay, you didn’t get paid. A rare postcard on its own and if it proves to beSmoky Joe, you found yourself a winner.
