Exceptional piece of Hollywood and American military history: a vintage U.S. Air Force Colonel's cap attributed to legendary Academy Award-winning actor and decorated military aviator James “Jimmy” Stewart (1908–1997).

The cap is a period military example constructed of dark wool with officer's braid, leather interior sweatband and Colonel's silver oak-leaf rank insignia. Interior retains its original size 7-3/8 / lot label and “Made of 100% Wool” label.

PROVENANCE: Acquired directly from Burley sale Group, August 15, 2026, Lot 79. The original Burley sale identification/tag and supporting paperwork shown in the photographs accompany the cap. A copy of the paid sale invoice documenting the acquisition may be requested.

Jimmy Stewart's military career was extraordinary and was not merely a publicity exercise. Stewart became the first major American movie star to enlist in the United States Army to fight in World War II.He served as a bomber pilot during World War II, flew combat missions over Europe, rose to the rank of Colonel during the war, continued serving in the Air Force Reserve after the war, and ultimately retired as a Brigadier General.

Stewart's genuine military artifacts are considerably scarcer than his conventional Hollywood memorabilia. For comparison, a Jimmy Stewart Air Force hat worn in the 1955 film Strategic Air Command sold through Heritage sales for $3,000 in 2022, while Stewart's actual military-worn Air Force uniform, subsequently screen-worn in Strategic Air Command, realized $7,440 through Heritage in 2015.
