Step into the past with this authentic 1937 Type 97 Kai-Gunto, a naval officer's sword issued by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. This meticulously crafted weapon is a symbol of tradition and military precision, popularly known as kai-gunto, derived from its introduction year in the National Era System as 2597.

Highlights of this Kai-Gunto include:

- A robust handle covered with unpolished black ray or shark skin, wrapped in brown silk tape.

- Detailed hilt fittings featuring a traditional kabutogane with visible skin or canvas, and menuki depicting three cherry blossoms on disks, all plated in gold brass.

- The chemically blackened bronze oval tsuba, surrounded by stylized seppa representing the Japanese rising sun.

- Scabbard constructed from lacquered wood or covered with polished black shark skin, complemented by gold-plated brass fittings.

This sword's overall length is 98.5 cm, with a blade length of 66.4 cm. It represents not only a piece of World War II history but also the high craftsmanship of the Imperial Japanese naval forces.
