This very fine, RARE antique - 900 SILVER Horse Sculpture/figurine depicting Man O War, the legendary race horse. Several of these very fine sculptures in silver were commissioned by Samuel D. Riddle his owner, as gifts for personal friends. Man O War rests proudly upon a beautiful black Marble Base. Extremely fine and rare as only a few were made, and every part of this magnificent treasure is masterfully rendered, sculpted and cast with even the most delicate, realistic features throughout. The English saddle, headstall and bit are realistically detailed down to the textured plaid on the saddle pad. The stirrups are wonderfully dimensional, standing realistically away from the horse's body and the reins are crafted in silver "ribbon" like wire.

The quality of this magnificent Man O War Sculpture is far and away equal to any antique gallery object d'art that might find it's way into the likes of Ralph Lauren's own, and personal collection.

Man O Wars most significant career wins spanned a two year period from 1919 and died in 1947 so I assume it would to date to this period.

I have had it tested by a jeweler and am assured that it tests authentically for 900 Silver. I cannot find any markings - thinking there could be a maker's mark underneath the horse where it sits upon the black Marble, but I do not want to remove him from the base and risk damage. He is in stunning, original condition with no damage or repairs to report. He has a beautiful, natural patina from aga. No breaks or missing parts.
