The shade is easily opened with one latch.

The black ring seen a few inches from the bottom of the shade is the bottom of the 2-part inner shade.

The black is actually the lead nut.

The three grooves in the lip of the glass are there to line up the separatepieces of glass and the metal ring they are inserted in.

There is only one proper way to line them up. There are no chips in the glass.

Westinghouse Streetlight Circa 1930's

This old Westinghouse truly IS "perfection." It functions as if new, and yet its glimmer highlights the "touches" upon its surface that offer ready evidence of all it has seen and endured for over 80 years. The surfaces are original to the fixture; the scrolls and artistry speak of another era; and the ebb and flow of time are at once evident in the sun-tinted lavender of the fixture's still pristine globe. This old Westinghouse IS "perfection."

ALL glass is flawless, no chips, cracks or BB holes, quite possibly a modern day miracle. The original Westinghouse cast-iron wall-mount bracket with seemingly original paint is rust free and built to last centuries!!

The beautiful glass shades are a work of fine engineering and art. There are three separate layers. The outside teardrop glass has a slight lavender tint as sometimes occurs in old glass due to UV rays and the mineral content of the glass, highly sought after. I took a close-up picture of embossing on the glass, looks to say "US". The inner shade is a two-part combination manufactured by Holophane. The shades have lines molded into the glass to cast light in specific directions as designed. One shade slips over the other and is secured with a 5" diameter lead nut. All points that are glass on glass or glass on metal are separated by a cushioning gasket. Go Holophane, you rock!

Recommissioning this light was a true pleasure as nothing was seized or broken. I only had to give it a good cleaning, replace all the worn or asbestos gaskets and completely replace and upgrade the electrical system. The socket mount has a unique feature that allows the socket to slide up and down allowing the bulb to extend into the shade the perfect amount as bulbs vary so much in length. The socket is a large mogul base. I will also include an easily removable adapter so the buyer can use standard household bulbs if they desire. The best of both worlds!

Indays-gone-by, simply re-wiring this light would have made it functional, butdangerous. Terminals inside the fixture were always live, orin electrician's terminology, "HOT". Simply changing a light bulb required atrained technician to avoid serious injury or even death. I removed the old socket and wiring and replaced it with abrand new UL Listed 110 volt grounded socket along with enclosed wiring to make it assafe as any light on the market today. Pass your inspections!!

From the wall to the far edge of the cast-aluminum shade is 32 inches. From the bottom of the tear-drop shade to the uppermost part of the cast-iron bracket is about 44 inches. The entire fixture weighs in at a hefty 109 pounds.

This light would look nice on the gable end of a nice garage, barn or other larger building on either the outside or inside. Maybe over a stained glass window. A pole or post-mount would also be a good use. Perhaps over or next to a large entry-way. Wherever it goes, it will be making a statement for generation after generation.

Local pickup is preferred in Winthrop Harbor, IL. but I will work with your shipper. I have also had heavy items delivered across the country for a couple of hundred dollars, but my guy is not extremely reliable and his quoted delivery times are not to be counted on, but he eventually always gets the job done. I may be willing to drive four or five hours towards the buyer to meet halfway. I can also meet at the Chicagoland Antique Advertising, Slot Machine and Jukebox Show in Grayslake IL. November 16th - 19th 2018. (In other words, "if you want it, we can figure out a way for you to get it").
