The Oak of Mamre was one of the most celebrated and visited sites in the Holy Land throughout the 19th century, drawing travelers, clergy, and scholars from around the world.

The acorn is preserved in a small round wooden case lined with cotton wool, the lid hand-inscribed in period ink: “Acorn fr. Abraham’s Oak, Plain of Mamre, Valley of Hebron, picked up by Wm. E.
