Original Rene Lalique Victoire Car Mascot
René Lalique Victoire No. 1147 car mascot, dating to circa 1928, modelled as Victoire, often referred to as the Spirit of the Wind. One of René Lalique’s most celebrated automotive designs, the mascot is executed in clear and frosted glass, capturing the movement and dynamism synonymous with the Art Deco period.
The mascot depicts a stylised female head with flowing hair swept dramatically backwards, creating a powerful sense of motion. The contrast between the frosted and polished surfaces enhances the sculptural form, allowing light to interact beautifully across the glass.
Signed in moulded relief R. Lalique France with the distinctive double tail to the letter Q, the signature is consistent with original period production. Introduced in 1928 as model number 1147, Victoire became one of the most recognisable designs produced by René Jules Lalique for the luxury motor car market.
Originally intended for mounting upon a radiator cap, the mascot would often have been paired with an illuminated mounting system, allowing light to pass through the glass from beneath and emphasise the frosted details during evening motoring.
The mascot retains its original moulded signature and remains one of the most iconic designs from Lalique’s celebrated series of Art Deco automotive mascots.
