This Genuine Herkimer Diamond Matrix Specimen was found at the Benchmark Quarry in St. Johnsville, NYSpecimen has been in my personal collection for over a decade now. This was part of a legendary Herkimer Collection before being added to mine. Specimen has one broken crystal, but it was a break that most likely happened a very long time ago, as there is no "white" and it blends in well. It doesnot kill the specimen or even detract from itsaesthetics much. Other than the one brokencrystal is relativelyflawless which is a miracle,and istruly a museum grade specimen for the highest level collector.
Herkimer Diamond Matrix specimensofthis size and quality are rarely achieved, mainly due to crystals almostalwaysbreaking off fromtheirhost matrix. Specimens like this are all tucked away inmuseums or private collections. There are over 10 Herks on this, most of which are XL Palm Sized crystals, that are aesthetically positioned all over this large Dolostone matrix plate. This plate also has associated minerals of Dolomite, Calcite and Marcasite that is stable and included inside the Calcite.
Specimen has been out of the ground for over a decade and is solid and stable. I can hold it by the crystals and they are not going anywhere. Specimen is free standing without a base from multiple aesthetic display angles, I could not demonstrate this and get a good picture in my light box. This is the hardest specimen I have to photograph. It's just so massive and there are so many different angles for the camera to focus on. Something is always out of focus, looking worse than it does in person. The is a NATURAL specimen, no repairs, this is how it was found. There is also a sweet little calcite crystal on the matrix as well as other associated minerals. Many of the crystals exhibit smokey color zoning, and aside from the one broken crystal, there is no other significant damage to report. The fact this many huge, heavy crystals stayed clumped together on matrix is a real anomaly, It just doesn't happen often.
This specimen is 100% natural, as pulled out from the pocket.
