18TH CENTURY PAIR OF ANTIQUE DUTCH EMBOSSED BRASS REPOUSSE WALL MIRRORS

With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic pair of 18th century antique Dutch embossed brass wall mirrors. The mirrors have the initials DAF written on the back and are dated 1747. We’ve visited hundreds of museums and thousands of private collections all over the country and are not aware of another pair in the United States as noteworthy as these. We’re sure the Dutch national collection may have a few and recall seeing a couple in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. We wouldn’t be surprised if these predated the inscription as we’ve handled similar mirrors as early as 1680. The repousse work is in fantastic condition and the pair is a true embodiment of the finest early Baroque and Rococo tastes. Mirrored glass was still quite expensive and would have only been available to families of great wealth. Despite their considerable age the mirrored glass still has great reflective properties. The brass does have a few dents and there's minimal loss at the feet but those who are familiar with 18th century decorative arts will recognize they are in superb condition. The mirrors measure 11 1/2” wide x 15 3/4” tall with a sight size of 5 1/2” wide x 7 1/2” tall.
