Victorian Crazy Quilt ~ Initialed M.E.B. ~ Dated 1885
This beautiful work of art textile was created by: Mary Esther Booth-GrunendikeBorn in Springfield, Illinois, March 6, 1865, Mary was the daughter of Amasa and Harriet Richardson Booth.At the age of 22, Mary wed Edward Grunendike on October 12, 1887. The couple resided for some time in Decatur, Illinois and then relocated to the Booth family home located at 500 South Sixth Street in Springfield, until her death in 1967 at the age of 102. The Booth-Grunendike family history is well documented in the State of Illinois archives.

Mary Booth-Grunendike was the oldest exhibitor at the Illinois State Fair, having exhibitied at the exposition starting in 1889,the year she entered this quilt, winning 2nd place, the fair entry placement tag is included with the quilt.

Embroidered fans, flowers, leaves, children, fruit, butterflies and other household items, including initials, ribbon work from the Knights of Templar, a silk patch of the American Flag, decorative sequins, a hectograph on silk of Miss Booth's wedding announcement, and a dated panel with her initials M.E.B. dated 1885. The mark of excellence for a Victorian Crazy Quilt is 100 differentstitches ... this far surpasses the mark! Some Crazy Quilts are just too unbelievable to describe . . . this is such a piece. In perfect original condition.

One panel has very nice and very clear hectograph of her Wedding Announcement.

Like the Crazy Quilt listed, the condition of the panels are mint, museum quality.

The 7 quilt panels are very beautiful, and each panel would look fantastic framed.
