[isdntekvideo]A wonderful and rare late-19th century automated "ship's capstan" industrial clock.
One of the ever-popular "French Industrial" series made by French clockmakers to celebrate the Industrial Age. This clock is attributed to Andre Romain Guilmet, the most renowned maker of this genre.Stands about 20" tall on a 9" diameter marble base. With a double-sided 8-day clock, barometer, two thermometer and a compass at the top.
The base is adorned with a cornucopia of ersatz ship's implements, such as an anchor, boat davit, block & tackle, life preserver, ropes, etc.The automaton movement, separately wound from the bottom, causes the capstan to slowly rotate for several hours.Fully restored in Paris, France by masters of their craft, now in as-new condition.
