Rare WW2 British smatchet fighting knife with sheath, part of the 1990’s Australian hoard. Features solid brass pommel with /|\13 stamp, mint dark brown wooden grips with steel pins, with plain steel oval guard. The 28cm broad leaf blade, near mint condition, with only age toning overall. Correct sand coloured canvas webbing scabbard with good stitching, marked with a broad arrow and M.E. Co 1942 (Mills Equipment Company). A near mint condition example, measuring 42cm overall. This knife was part of the Australian ‘smatchet hoard’ - released from army stores in the early 1990's. The smatchets in this hoard were the brass pommel type and mostly in very good/unused condition.
