Up for sale is an absolute masterpiece of Russian Imperial art — a stunning 1876 antique Russian Orthodox icon of Our Lady of Kazan. This is a full-size analog piece measuring approximately 26 x 30 cm (about 10.2 x 11.8 inches), beautifully hand-painted on a solid wooden panel and covered with a magnificent, highly detailed solid silver 84 zolotnik oklad (riza).The highlight of this exceptional icon is the breathtaking, multi-colored cloisonné enamel work. Rich shades of blue, white, and red enamel decorate the large, ornate halos and the corners of the lower border. The headpiece of the Virgin Mary is further embellished with a beautiful ruby-colored glass gemstone, and the borders are set with faux pearl white glass stone beads that mimic traditional Imperial pearl embroidery.The silver cover is fully hallmarked on the edge, showing the official 84 zolotnik silver standard (875 purity), the historic St. Petersburg city coat of arms, and the crisp date of 1876.The icon remains in flawless, pristine antique condition with absolutely no modern restorations.
