For your consideration, an original royal autograph letter manuscript issued by Frederick Augustus I, King of Saxony, and addressed to Ferdinand I, King of the Two Sicilies. The letter is written in formal Latin chancery script and is explicitly dated at Dresden on 24 April 1820. It represents a direct dynastic communication between reigning monarchs, formally styled and personally subscribed by Frederick Augustus, who addresses the recipient throughout as his “most dear brother and kinsman.”

The text acknowledges receipt of correspondence announcing the birth of a Neapolitan princess, daughter of Francis, Duke of Calabria and hereditary prince of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Frederick Augustus conveys his heartfelt congratulations and extends benevolent wishes to the newborn princess, identified by her baptismal names Carolina Ferdinanda, and to the royal house as a whole. The language is ceremonially warm yet precise, fully consistent with early nineteenth-century European court diplomacy.

The manuscript survives as a single-sheet bifolium letter, folded for dispatch without a separate envelope. At the central fold remains the original applied circular wax seal, now flattened and darkened with age, with clearly visible crossed impressions consistent with a tied and sealed closure. The exterior bears the address panel written in French, together with an internal archival or docketing inscription reading “Detteo Comes ab Einsiedel,” identifying later handling or custody. The autograph subscription “Fridericus Augustus” is present in the hand of the issuing monarch.

Correct, authentic, and precisely dated, this document is a fine surviving example of post-Napoleonic royal correspondence, combining an identifiable historical occasion, an autograph royal signature, an extant original wax seal, and documentary evidence of circulation and retention. As such, it constitutes a historically meaningful and institutionally credible artifact of European dynastic and diplomatic practice in 1820.
