San Ildefonso Pueblo July 26 1925–Feb 7th 2000 Carmelita was raised by her Aunts Desideria Montoya, and Maria Martinez after her mother died. Both of her Aunts were prolific and premier potters, and their works are highly sought after and in museums and private collections. Carmelita grew up in the heart of the Pottery making world, so she was taught her art form by the best of the best. In her adult years Carmelita was awarded 20 First Place Ribbons while exhibiting her pottery at the Santa Fe Indian Market. This honor for her work was never achieved by anyone before her, or since.

Carmelita was also designated a National Treasure during the Nixon administration. This Pristine Condition Pot measures 13 inches in height and 34 inches in circumference at the widest section, with an opening of 5 inches. The photos in different light clearly show the black on black pattern which is exquisite, and can only be achieved by the ancient methods that she was taught . There are no chips or cracks, and this piece when purchased in the 90s was immediately displayed in a cabinet, in a non smoking Environment, and is as good as new. This is an exquisite example of Carmelitas work.
