This listing is for a rare original 1913 panoramic 6x20-inch photograph of the

US Naval Torpedo Station, Newport Rhode Island. The photograph is credited in the image by O.W. Waterman.

O.W. Waterman was a professional photographer who documented the U.S. Navy subjects and vessels in the early 1900s. Many of his historic images feature the U.S. Naval Torpedo Station in Newport, Rhode Island, which operated on Goat Island from 1869 through the mid-20th century.

The Naval Torpedo Station in Newport played a monumental role in the U.S. military history:

Ordered by the Secretary of the Navy in 1869, it served as the nation's first experimental ordnance station.

The station transitioned to the Naval Underwater Ordnance Station in 1951 and eventually evolved into today's Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport.
