Rare John Rogers Parian Wounded To The Rear: One More Shot Civil War :
K&G Enterprises, purveyor of collectible, vintage, and antique merchandise (e.g., John Rogers Statuary*), is thus, most pleased to place in sale this very rare John Rogers Parian, Wounded to the Rear: One More Shot. They are very special. Don't overlook it guys.A number of Rogers groups were produced in parian, a hard-paste ceramic much like bisque but much higher grade material. Parians are fired much hotter than bisque, 3000-3500 degrees Fahrenheit--so hot the surface of the parian vitrifies to a slick glassy-like surface in contrast to bisque that has a grainy feel to it. Rogers did not produce his groups in parian. That was done most likely by various parian houses in England. Some persons believe their molds were fashioned from the original plasters. However, it is more reasonable to assume that the houses producing these parians fashioned their own number ones themselves.
Parian "Shots" are all close in overall size, ~21". However, their bases vary a good deal in height meaning that the figures also vary in size. The plain base of parian example we sale here is shorter plain. Thus, this example has the larger figures. Condition wise this example is in fine shape with the exception of a minor repair to right tunic collar of the standing soldier. I compared it to my own "Shot" that is intact and I see no appreciable difference.Rogers' parians are very special and highly desirable. This example is very reasonably priced given its rarity, condition, Civil War subject matter, overall popularity of this particular group, and its medium of composition. So don't let this piece get away. (So gibt es hier keinen Platz für Widelinge.)
Rogers Groups I have previously listed, such as;the poly Fighting Bob, Football, and now, Pickett Guard (A) and Washington are alsogone, gone, gone. Plus, all of this inventory is about to go away to a private collector/speculator independent of in the next couple weeks--a great relief to yours truly. So if you have any inclination to acquire any of the groups I am putting on the block, you had best take action and intervene (which is OK) or lose the opportunity, most likely, for good. About the time that's left for this piece now is this round of saleing.
