~~~Bonus Included!My Supplemental Big Print Color CommentaryCopyright My Two Threads 2024~~~This is the cute one which sits sideways!Your Singer Adjustable ZigZag Attachment will fit vintage side attaching low shank straight stitch Singer sewing machines such as models 15, 27, 28, 66, 99, 127, 128, 185, 201, 222 and includes the Featherweight 221.Your lovely beautifully engineered all steel Singer Adjustable ZigZag Attachment is in very good condition and is complete with the unique sideways sitting zigzag attachment, original box, tiny needle clamp screw (essential and often missing), long fastening screw, cording foot, zigzag foot, adjustable slotted foot and the original little Singer green instruction manual.
Look closely at the bottom of the zigzag attachment. This screw holds the feet. If it\'s missing there isn\'t a replacementscrew.The little instruction booklet is intact. No missing pages.
The original box is in good condition.The stitch test sample made with THIS Singer Adjustable ZigZag Attachment is Play!Lets begin with an overview of how yourSinger treasureworks.Archive photos are used to illustrate and demonstrate this type of Singer zigzag attachment using my Featherweight 221. The instruction manual contains attaching tips which will be significant to owners of Singer sewing machines models 66, 15-30, 99, 127 and 128.~This old girl can be very fussy to set up.But, she is worth it. Her zigzag stitch is neat and beautiful.Let\'s begin.Remove the machine needle clamp screw (blue arrow below) and put it in a safe place. The standard needle clamp screw head interferes with the function of the zigzag attachment and must be replaced with the screw from the zigzag set.Replace the machine needle clamp screw with the needle clamp screw from the zigzag set (blue arrow below). Leave it a little loose for the time being and set the needle aside.Before securing the attachment to the presser bar, gently press this lever (red arrow below) downward. This action will cause the pawl to rotate the ratchet wheel counterclockwise. The height of the attachment will shorten a wee fraction making it easier to align the upper attachment mount hole with the threading hole of the presser bar on a Singer Featherweight.From left to right (below), are the ZigZag Foot, Cording Foot and Adjustable Slotted Foot.Secure the foot of your choice to the zigzag attachmentbefore fitting the attachment to the machine presser bar by loosening this little screw (red arrow below).NOTE: This little attaching screw comes completely off very easily during foot changes. You might like to hold the zigzag attachment over a cloth or magnetic pin dish to prevent the loss of this essential screw.
Each foot has a fitted notch which slides up behind the screw on the zigzag attachment which secures the foot.
Slide the foot into place, being certain it is level and then tighten the screw.You will also need to remove the sewing machine needle before fitting the Singer Adjustable ZigZag Attachment to the presser bar of your sewing machine.With the presser bar lever up, bring the attachment in at an angle between the needle bar and the presser bar. This little flat pawl lever (red arrow) needs to sit above the needle clamp.
Using the long screw secure the zigzag attachment to the presser bar.Use the top hole of the mount behind the zigzag attachment if you are attaching it to a Featherweight.Because it isn\'t easy to see, you might like to stand and look down over your sewing machine or from the side as you secure your zigzag attachment to your sewing machine. Doing this will help you see what you are doing AND keep from cross threading/damaging the long screw.Replace the needle and tighten the needle clamp screw. To replace the needle, you may have to turn the handwheel towards you until the screw is not inhibited by the attachment. This may require a little finessing.When the zigzag attachment is secured to the presser bar and the needle re-inserted, lift the longer lever on the right side upwards.Adjust the width of the zigzag stitch by loosening this screw (right red arrow below)on the left side of the zigzag attachmentand gently pushing the pointer (left red arrow below) up or down the scale and tighten the slotted stitch width adjusting screw.Moving the pointer up on the graduatedscale will narrow the stitch width (the highest position will produce a straight stitch). Moving the pointer down will increase the stitch width.The stitch length (number of stitches per inch) is determined by the stitch length regulator on your sewing machine.Now you are ready to stitch!~~Notice the zigzag and adjustable slotted foot have a channel underneath to hold and guide trims. Use trims which are no wider than 3 mm wide (1/8th inch) for the best results. The cording foot also has a guide underneath to control the cord as it is stitched down. Suitable cord is no larger than 1-2 mm (3/16th\"). Larger or thicker cords will strain the delicate spring in the cording foot.The Cording FootUsed to apply pretty trims such as satin rat-tail, wool yarn, pearled crochet cotton (size 5), gimp and other suitably sized cords to embellish you custom sewing project.The cording foot has a delicate spring at the front of the foot held by a tiny screw which can be gentlyloosenedortighteneda little to control the cord as it is stitched down.The ZigZag FootUsed when a zigzag stitch is needed to applique or to stitch flat trims such as baby rick rack, picot trim or ribbon.The hinge allows the machinist to stitch over uneven surfaces such as a seam.This is probably an early attempt to develop and apply a \"floating foot\" (As seen in the later Singer zigzag attachment Simanco 160620).The Adjustable Slotted FootUsed to join fabrics, wide ribbons, lace in a way that one or the other overlaps while being stitched into place depending on which slot is used.The adjustable guide can be moved left or right by loosening the little screw and then securing it. This determines how close or far away to the edge the needle stitches and can make a big difference to accurately stitching layers.Set to the left.Set to the right.Note: I found joining fabrics is easier due to the angle of the slots compared to Singers later adjustable edge guides which are not angled.Like my comments?They are included.Copyright My Two Threads 2024There you have it!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Your beautiful 1930\'s Singer Adjustable ZigZag Attachment is complete, cleaned, oiled and stitch tested!Ready to use!
