This is a fantastic and well-madeFine Antique Old American Folk Art Wood Carved Carousel Horse, likely dating to the first half of the 20th century but could in fact be older (I am not an expert on these items.) This horse is meticulously hand carved from a dense hardwood, whose legs are comprised of various jointed segments, which is the older and traditional method of constructing these carousel horses. This horse is adorned with elaborate regalia, comprised of thin sheets of brass, which were tacked onto the body and then hand hammered with various embossed designs. This horse has round glass jewels along both sides of its neck, and large glass eyes. I believe that there was a square plate attached on the underbelly of the horse at some point (see photo 17,) which suspended the horse with a bar underneath, and possibly one above as well. This artwork was found with pieces of a brass carousel bar, but I do not know how these pieces would attach, or if they are original to this item. This large horse is approximately 27 1/2 inches tall x 43 1/2 inches long x 9 1/2 inches wide. Good condition for many decades of age, use, and storage, with some minor wood splitting, missing bits of ornamentation, scuffing, some old breakage to one ear, a broken area on the back hoof (which has been glued back some time ago,) and lastly, one of the back legs is coming a little loose, and slightly wobbles (please see photos carefully.) Acquired from an old collection in Los Angeles, California. Due to the large size, and heavy weight of this piece, S&H costs will be unavoidably high.
