ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hermann Hennen was born 1946 in beautiful region of Sauerland, Germany, where he is still staying today. He learned the wood turner handcraft and finished the apprenticeship as a national competition winner. As his career, he has worked as a designer in product development, first in the furniture and then later in advertising industry. Since his early youth, he was an enthusiastic pipe smoker. When his brother and him were 13 and 14 years old, they already tried to made a pipe in their parental turnery. With the shortage of money and lack of knowledge, they only used the wood that they could find, mostly from the cherry, beech and exotic trees.

During his working days, he practised pipe making as a hobby, like the most of pipe makers, the first pipes were for himself and his friends. Upon his retirement, he finally had time to fulfilhis dream of pipe making. At the beginning, he had the opportunity to work for dealers in large scale and through this experience he was able to learn more about pipe making and expand his workshop. He had this opportunity to visit some big pipe makers personally and learn more important techniques from them. \"making pipe is my passion and I hope that I can practice it for a long time\" the artisan said.
