Typed Letter signed: "George R. I." As King of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions, Defender of the Faith and Emperor of India, 2 p, 8x12½. On gilt-cresed partly imprinted stationery. Court of Saint James, 1937 February 10. To the President of Costa Rica, confirming and renewing the credentials of a diplomatic Minister. In full: "To the President of the Republic of Costa Rica, Sendeth Greeting!/Our Good Friend!/You will have received Our Letter of the Fifteenth day of January last, with the intelligence of the Abdication of Our most dearly-beloved elder Brother, together with the announcement of Our Accession to the Throne. In consequence of these events, it become one of Our first duties to confirm and to renew the credentials granted by His former Majesty to Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Costa Rica. Feeling confident that the conduct of Mr. Adam hitherto will have merited Your perfect approbation, by his endeavours on all occasions to strengthen and improve the friendship and good understanding so happily subsisting between the two countries, We will request that You will continue to give entire credence to all that he may communicate to You in Our name, especially when he shall assure You of Our sincere wishes for the welfare and prosperity of the Republic of Costa Rica. And so We command You to the protection of the Almighty. Given at Our Court of Saint James, the Tenth day of February, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirty-seven, in the First Year of Our Reign. Your Good Friend," When his brother, King Edward VIII, abdicated, KING GEORGE VI (1895-1952) acceded to the throne, reigning from 1936-1952. George VI is best remembered as a staunch national symbol during World War II who refused to leave London during the fierce German Blitzkrieg of 1940. He was succeeded by his daughter as Queen Elizabeth II. Lightly creased. File holes at left edge, which is lightly stained near bottom. Horizontal fold touches tails of both g's in "George."
