Very rare to market. Lazar Krestin painting of an old Hassidic Jewish man seated with a cane. The image takes your breath away. The expression of this man's face is inspiring. The blue eyes show strength, determination and kindness. Even in the face of persecution and the challenges of old age, the spirit of this amazing individual has not broken. Lazar Krestin was born in Lithuania, studied painting in Vienna and became the most prominent art student of Isidore Kaufmann. The painting originated in Lithuania and was moved by the owner's family to New York. It has yellowed over time and the painting could use a good cleaning. It is oil on canvas. It measures 20 1/4" high x 17" wide without the frame. It measures 27" high x 24" across with the frame.The painting comes with a certificate and appraisal done by Joy Schonberg who was the head of the Judaica department at Christie's in the 1990's.
