Circa 1935 David Gumbel Copper Jewish Passover Seder Tray Bezalel Palestine:
$20000.00

inches in diameter. This appears to be the earliest known David Gumbel piece of Judaica from Palestine that is in existence. Hallmarked on back as seen. The decoration is entirely hand engraved and repoussed. The only Gumbel pieces that appear at sale are silver examples that were mass produced in the 1950's. This copper tray is one of a kind from 1935 - 1940. I did not polish it, it has an old patina. Shown in the photos are from the 1987 book by Gideon Ofrat "New Bezalel 1935 - 1955" (only in Hebrew), where you can see a photo of Gumbel (very young here, all the photos known of Gumbel show him much older, with all-white hair), with a student holding a copper tray hand made the same way, but the decoration is completely different and does not appear to be for Passover. I asked the Israel Museum if I can have a scan of this photo and that is what you see in the last two photos.
